I spent the day planting garlic and preparing the beds for winter. A good sign for when to plant garlic in the fall up here is when the first frost comes. I plant the cloves 6 inches apart and 3 inches deep in holes I make with my thumb. I then fill the hole with compost. The bed prep involved adding small amounts of rock dust, bone meal, and a mixture of used coffee grounds and compost which I then worked into the soil with a surface cultivator (garden weasel). I covered the soil with a thick layer of old straw, and then all the tomato and lettuce plants I pulled.

I dug holes in the ground and planted the tiny potatoes I harvested. Then I placed the potted trees I have on top and filled in the holes with soil. Burying the pots like this protects the roots and prevents the cold from killing the plant. November / December can get really cold and there can very little to no snow cover. It is this time that is deadly to young plants.

We had our first hard frost last night. A few more like that and the carrots can come out. They and the lettuce are the final crops. I usually plant spinach in the fall but I had so much on this year I just didn't have the time to get the seeds in the ground.

I collected some carrot seeds and borage seeds too. I was going to do the same with the lettuce, but the frost got to the flowers before they set seed.

HARVESTING !!!!!!!!

SEED SAVING!!!! can not keep up with the buggers. Trying different ways to store them. Dark "cosmetic jars" are the latest attempt, but only work for smallest seeds / or smaller amounts.

This remains my favorite thread !
Probably take a look at Specialty Bottles and Jars. A case is far cheaper than buying a few at a time on Amazing which is a middleman. I bought in quantity there in the past. It works out good for storage space saving, as opposed to all different size/shape containers. You could share an order with others to lower the price.
That's just me though, I'm just putting it out there.
They have a warehouse up in Washington state. You might be able to order and pickup at WillCall.
I liked the Amber bottles & jars. https://www.specialtybottle.com/glass-b ... a-vitamins
Amber glass vitamin bottles, also known as glass packers, are available in sizes from 60cc to 500cc
The other glass jars, very wide selection https://www.specialtybottle.com/glass-jars

Wow, thanks Andy!
Here for the new Father. One thing I know, they're a highly reputable business. They care and it shows.
Can I place a will-call order?

Please call us at 206-382-1100 to place an order for pick-up in Seattle or Nashville. In Seattle, you can also place an order in person between 9AM and 4PM. We do not take walk-in orders in Nashville.

Friday Funnies and Folly!

Wheeeeee! I had a busy week. Today I'm just spending time laughing at what I have seen the past few months.
Yep, still prepping as best as I can. That's all anyone can do, really.
I've been in the Library a lot, updating some things, debunking the LIARS & Frauds.
It's all in good fun.

I was just reviewing the Christian site for Mass Animal Deaths. Sure is disconcerting to see so many...

Find your local source of water, lake, stream and learn to filter it. Store up some water for long term drinking water supplies. An above ground pool is ideal, just don't swim in it

We started cutting down our buddleia branches. We strip the leaves off and dry them to use as kindling for our fire.
Planted up some garlic cloves and seeds and saved some seed pods from our broccoli plants.

Today I am mashing malt I made from feed barley this summer. I will ferment the sweet liquid and turn it into whiskey.

While the enzymes do their work I will be preparing the garden beds for winter.

I had to click Thanks, to get it off 119.
But, the whiskey project sounds good for Winter.
About a month ago, thought about buying a pint of good Brandy for coffee. I keep forgetting to buy it though. It's not a habit.

Council on Foreign Relations (connunists  Rockefellers)
are on the warpath against meat eaters, and animal farming is cause for Global Warming

https://www.cfr.org/blog/down-hunger-sp ... ood-system

The greater the population, the more mouths to feed. The greater the share that are middle-class [PDF], the stronger the appetite for food products from animal sources. Over the past 50 years, daily intake of proteins and other essential micro-nutrients from animal products, a category that covers milk, eggs, cheese, chicken, meat, beef, sausages, fish and seafood, increased by 33 percent in high-income countries and surged by 116 percent in low- and middle-income countries. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) expects [PDF] both figures to continue rising.

All it takes is low lying areas, Methane is an incredibly flammable heavy gas that sinks to low areas, like Propane, and a spark. I've already shared Jumping Jack Flash It's a GAS GAS GAS blogspot. https://jumpingjackflashhypothesis.blog ... s-gas.html So, demonizing PG&E for shutting off Electricity?
Nah. Just a flip of a power switch, just a spark from a car. A cigarette lit, in the air near a Methane pocket.

They don't want to scare people with the truth about METHANE.
