Christian- have you seen those homemade mousetraps that use a bucket with water and a bit of oil to make the sides slippery, a dowel suspended over it that can spin with food put on the dowel in the middle? The mouse smells/sees the food and ventures out onto the dowel. The unstable dowel flips the mouse into the water drowning it

Looks as if it could be a shrine!
Haha...too funny! It's not so glorious looking in person (on the bathroom wall :) )...but maybe food shrines will become a thing :D

Today I foraged my first chicken of the woods mushroom! I also identified several native medicinal plants that I want to return to for seeds in a few weeks.

Over the past couple days, I finished canning sauces...and today am soaking navy beans to can some Boston beans...
Just these and black beans to go and we can put the pressure canner away for the winter :) Then will come apple sauce, cranberry sauce and other things for the waterbath.

I ordered a 6 gal bucket of soft wheat for pasta (we mix 50/50 with durum)...and 2 lb of Cream of Tartar. This has an indefinite shelf life if closed tightly in a mason jar, and 1/2 tsp to 1/4 tsp of baking soda and you have home made baking powder.

Next up I will be making a new macrame shrine/shelf to hold 2 more planters that will hold up to 12 more plants.

And working on an afghan so I am warmer this winter...

Today I canned 10 qts of tomatoes, fermented peppers for hot sauce, harvested elm oyster mushrooms, and bought a replacement water filter. It was a productive day!

Today I collected wild elderberries. With the ripen berries, I made an Elderberry syrup with molasses for the winter and began to make capers from the unripened berries. I'm soaking the flowers in 80 proof vodka to make into an Elderberry Liqueur.

How do you make your syrup with molasses? If you don't mind sharing...I usually simmer the berries in a water/honey base, and reduce to syrup...but molasses sounds like it would be nice with elderberry
