...Hives and electric fencing are expensive. Anyhow, we'll be discussing it further on Monday...
That's just awesome! I did a huge amount of reading a while back on the different hives. I'm not sure what your primary purpose of your beekeeping is (honey, wax, pollination, etc) butI do know the standard Langstroth hives are indeed pretty expensive. But all the other gear is more expensive than that so I recommend you do some more networking and make friends with a nice beekeeper who will let you process the honey using their equipment :-)

Whichever system you decide on, I thoroughly recommend a bee hut for the reasons explained in this video:

And since you have a bee hut, it makes sense to build Warre hives because they are really cheap to build, you can adapt them for frames, and the hut provides a solid structure for a hive lift (no heavy lifting).

I've just started the winter greenhouse garden. Slightly late but it's all fast growing greens for the moment. Just finished getting the first layer of hay, dirt, compost finished in my potato bins ... Those start going in Feb 14. Still working on soil health here. The hubs just told me that he's going to build a bunch of raised beds and truck in all the compost we need simply because getting our soil back to health is taking a really long time. I'm sure the bio-reactors and mushrooms I'm growing will go a long way in helping now that we've got those going.
I still have seed from last year and I keep putting in an order each month for more.

In short, I'm still preparing for my spring garden even though spring seeds will be started next month!
