Paper, pens and pencils...really good thought...In a few historical memoirs I'd read, those items were hard to find and highly sought after. Ahh, the value of reading old books.

You laugh at the baby butt cream, but all the babies near me when shtf will be happy and comfy  It was a cute idea "baby butt cream" it was so funny. Elders in homes use butt cream, keep that in mind.

And you are exactly right on the sales. In the ~8 weeks before the sales, prices inch upwards slowly to above normal, then they drop to normal. People are fooled into sales buying.

Today I was talking with a friend about the fur coat You're very inventive & resourceful, and quite valuable to community. I found a real mink "spring weather" mink stole ~30 years ago, saved since, will soon be remade into a warm neck gator.

Now I am working on a trade for some pelts...What are good trades for pelts? Could you write up a short but general how to value & how to judge for size/types pelts & some guidelines for what is good trades? No hurry. Few people know about pelt trading. Some honest Q's.

Amazon is now pressuring brick & mortar stores to allow their customers to have Amazon-Pay via Seeking Alpha.
Amazon, after taking over Whole Foods, the recent move to attract gas stations, restaurants and smaller retailers to use Amazon Pay shows the determination of Amazon to gain a big market share in digital payments segment, is planning to have 3,000 Amazon Go stores by 2021 via Bloomberg.
Ya'da thunk they're trying to create a Monopoly? Remember Microsoft Monopoly? Better be wary, predatory Monopolies have too much control & already have enough money to fail & not be worried.

Today?
Shared.
Finalizing my planned purchase list while listening to 70s comedy about Grass
Or trying to, it keeps wanting to grow bigger, list has more 12V powered items.
Knocked off a few ToDo's. I'm happy!
Wired up a 12VDC 3 speed fan, installed it on wall. It works great, moves lot of AIR.
Soldered up a ~30' 12VDC extension cord using typical Farm connectors on both ends.

Sorry I fell off the earth there for a few days, just the season to work alot...

I got in a bunch of leather so have been on a little kids moccasin making binge (I will try to do a post on how to make mocs etc)

For trade...a Good trade is one where everyone benefits. So 3 or four pelts today might be traded for one pair of winter hunting mocs...or 4 12 sq ft hides...but the same in 10 years these same pelts and hides might be traded for a sack of potatoes. It depends on who you trade with, what each has, what each needs. I traded a cup for a 5 lb bag of coffee beans once, because on the road I always bring an extra cup or two, and met someone who really needed one.

There are no set rules for trading, and value is more so based on need, skill, etc...vs monetary value. What makes it a Good trade, is when everyone walks away better off than they were before trading.

Today?
I am working through AnomalousHowards entire post he linked us to here https://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg ... d=31911346
I'm about half way. It is a long post  He got me beat. However, he does put together highly rational posts based on Science. To get the whole picture, posts need to be longer and not show just one TREE. Can't expect one sentence.
To sit that long, I had to dig out the Oil Heater and put under desk. It has been getting colder in AZ.

@Elew That is interesting on trading pelts. Can you make fur lined vests? I had one, gave it away after settling in AZ. I'm in market for another one. Was looking on Etsy (are all icky)

I cannot wait until Jan, when I hopefully have more reading time!

So when I sit working/reading or whatever, for long periods in the CO cold, I fill a hot water bottle with super hot water and then put it under my feet a put a blanket over my lap to trap the heat...Works great for a few hours ;)

I can make them, but I don't have a good vest pattern for men right now...still looking though. I have Nyai on the hunt for old leather vests in the thrift shops too. If you find an old one that fits well, you could send it to me for the pattern, and I would consider that a fair trade for a new vest :) Patterns are useful for years!! Are you looking for shearling? or more of a sherpa lined with top grain leather for the shell?

@ Elew I can get patterns, well, for darned near anything.
I've a few connections in my bag of tricks
I can draw patterns too, using a "Dressmaker's Curve" and other pattern designer's tools.
Darned High School sewing classes!

My choice would be for Shearling, or other organic heat trapping vest liners.

Hey everyone! Dad's surgeries have gone well. He's back home now. I see that Andy F has been busy around here :D . I have a lot of reading to catch up on!
I've been keeping busy with small things here at the urban farm. I've been saving seeds, cooking, and collecting firewood. I've also been spending some time working with my squirmy wormies. I have four worm bins. I just moved two bins out to the greenhouse to make room indoors for some shelving. We don't have enough storage and I've been adding to our food supplies. Last year we bought a 50 lb bag of rice for $25. This year we bought a 40 lb bag for $30. Hopefully soon I can buy a 50 lb bag of potatoes. The plan is to pressure can, dehydrate, and freeze as many as possible. I'd like to get a vacuum sealer like Andy F's but it's winter and money is always tightest for me this time of year.
Anyhow, I wanted to check in to say hey. I've been thinking about y'all. Stay warm!

Today?
My orders are all done. Now working on the next couple week's ToDo List.
Have a few major projects to complete in December, I hope. I went to FoodSaver direct at https://www.foodsaver.com/vacuum-sealers/ and got 10% off a couple Rolls of Bags.

Elsewhere, I ordered "Neoprene Rubber Sheet 1/32" Thick x 8-1/2" x 11" 60 Duro"
The 60 Duro sheet rubber is impervious to solvents, lasts almost forever in all weather, takes up little space, cut into 4 equal sized rectangles to use as Jar Lid openers.
1 to keep & 3 to share or for barter.
Think about "60 Duro Gasket" material, will be needed, I now have 1/16" & 1/8" x 8.5" x 11" in my stores...
