And I forgot Beets. I will grew them in ice buckets and they did great! Delicious too. Will grow them again.

I planted a dozen peas, 5 spuds and a broad bean seed under little cloches, in one of my plots in late september, just to see what would happen.
Peas and broad bean grew and produced flowers. Spud plants didn't get to more than a couple of leaves before they gave up.
2 of the peas have just produced pods! In December! Mad or what! Will keep you posted on what happens next :)

I planted peas as a second growing this year from seeds of the peas I planted earlier in the year and had mostly the same results. Very disappointing but good knowledge.
My second growth corn is about what I expected: disappointing but worth the effort for the knowledge. I left the first corn too long and then delayed planting even further after that. Next year I will harvest / replant sooner.

I love this! What I love the most is that you are *doing* it and learning thru trial & error versus trying to make everything "perfect" before giving it a go. I think that's what drives my hubby bonkers in my gardening - I just have at it and constantly try something new - every year is different! He likes predictability and "doing it the way [his] grandparents did." Sorry, buddy, you married me, not your ma. I look forward to seeing this thread grow with everything you do!
