Hoop houses are relatively inexpensive and easy to construct, but I have to say that if I had been growing in one during this past snowstorm, I wouldn't have had anything left. If you can afford it, I strongly suggest going with polycarb panels.

I liked the tip on layering insulation within the structure demonstrated at 1:40 in the vid. Essentially creating varying grow zones under one "roof".
Helpful as an adjunct for any type of exterior construction material.
